Hello and welcome to the Silver Mind Global newsletter.
Your First 15 Minutes with AI
You've heard the word "AI" roughly a thousand times in the past year. At the dinner table, on the news, from your grandkids. Everyone seems to be talking about it, and if you're honest, part of you is curious, and another part is thinking: "Is this really for someone like me?"
It is. Absolutely, wholeheartedly, yes.
And today, we're going to prove it - together, in about 15 minutes.
So what actually is AI?
Here's the simplest way to think about it: imagine you have a friend who has read an enormous amount - books, articles, recipes, medical information, travel guides, you name it. And this friend is endlessly patient, never makes you feel silly for asking, and is available any time of day or night.
That's essentially what an AI chatbot is. You type a question or a request, in plain, everyday English, and it responds, conversationally, as a knowledgeable friend would.
The two most popular ones right now are ChatGPT (from a company called OpenAI) and Claude (from a company called Anthropic). Both are free to get started with.
How to open it
On your phone, tablet, or computer, open your browser (that's Safari, Chrome, or Edge, whichever you normally use) and type:

You'll be asked to create a free account using your email address. It takes about two minutes. Once you're in, you'll see a simple text box at the bottom of the screen. That's where you type.

Your first three things to try
Don't overthink this. Just type naturally, as if you were texting a friend. Here are three gentle starting points:
1. Ask it something you've always wondered about. "Why do my knees ache more when it rains?" or "What's the difference between a solicitor and a barrister?"
2. Ask it to explain something confusing. "Can you explain what a reverse mortgage is, in very simple terms?"
3. Ask it for help with something practical. "Can you suggest three easy dinners I could make this week that don't take longer than 30 minutes?"
Your first copy-paste prompt
Not sure what to type? Here's one you can copy and use right now:
“Hi, I’m new to AI and just getting started. Can you tell me three interesting things AI can help me with in everyday life? Please keep it simple and friendly.”

What if it gives me a weird answer?
This happens sometimes, and it's completely fine. AI isn't perfect; it can occasionally get things wrong or misunderstand what you meant. If that happens, just try again with different words, or type: "That's not quite what I meant, can you try again?"
You genuinely cannot break it. There's nothing to lose. Every conversation starts fresh.
One last thing before you go
You've just taken the first step that most people in their 50s, 60s, and 70s haven't taken yet. That's worth something.
If you'd like to keep going, with a proper, guided path through everything AI can do for you, at your own pace, in plain English, our Silver Mind course is designed exactly for this moment. 6 modules, 24 lessons, no jargon, no rush.
